A neighbourhood watch group in Bromsgrove has won a prestigious national award for going above and beyond to serve the community.

Fairfield Village Community Association were nominated for the National Volunteer Recognition Awards which are run by the National Neighbourhood Watch Network.

The group, which aims to support community life within the Fairfield Parish Ward by improving well-being and building local pride, received more than 270 nominations and were revealed as the winners at the ceremony held at the Wellcome Collection in London on Wednesday, September 20.

Spokesperson Conrad Palmer said: “Winning this award is absolutely wonderful and is down to the hard work and dedication of our amazing volunteers and the strong partnership with other community stakeholders including Bromsgrove Police.”

Alan and Sarah Gormley received the award on behalf of the community from the CEO of Neighbourhood Watch, John Haywood-Cripps and the Chair of the Neighbourhood Watch Network, Ian Bretman.

Other award winners included Peter New for innovation and reach and Supporting Sisters for crime prevention.

Mr Palmer added: “This is a huge achievement for our community. Congratulations to all our amazing volunteers and supporters for being part of our success as without you none of our initiatives could be delivered.

“So, whether you’re a litter picker, tree planter, look after the flower beds, deliver newsletters, serve behind the bar, help with marketing, coordinate one of our initiatives, report suspicious activity or attend one of our activities, thank you.

“Our thanks also to our partners and the trustees of Fairfield Village Hall for use of the community building that allows events to take place.”
