A ONE thousand-pound grant has been awarded to support the work of Bromsgrove & Redditch Welcome Refugees in helping people seeking sanctuary to integrate into their new communities.
The money will go towards the production costs of Refujuice, a fresh apple juice which is produced and sold every year to raise crucial funds for the refugee support group.
The 2023 vintage has just gone on sale.
The award came from the Inclusive Community Fund which is a partnership between Worcestershire Community Foundation and the West Mercia Police & Crime Commissioner.
Refujuice co-ordinator, Joy Bourne, said she was delighted with receiving the grant.
She said: “This sizable grant recognises just how much effort BRWR makes to support refugees and asylum seekers as they try to create new lives as part of our communities.”
“Volunteers should be rightly proud that their many efforts toward inclusivity and integration for those seeking sanctuary, are rewarded in this way.
"The money will be a big boost for one of the BRWR's biggest fund-raisers, and a major contributor to all the good work that we do.”
David Shaw, chair of Worcestershire Community Fund, said the latest grant awards supported “very worthwhile projects helping many of the most vulnerable communities and individuals across the county.”
“The level of interest in the fund and the range of applications we received, demonstrates the extraordinary appetite and commitment to help our communities,” he added.
The first 2023 batch of Refujuice is now available via refujuice.brwr@gmail.com. Three 0.75 litre bottles costs £10 and a case of 12 is £37. Free local home delivery is included for all orders.
