Controversial plans to build glamping pods on green belt land in Wythall have been withdrawn.

The application, which was submitted to Bromsgrove District Council by Julia Dowell-Lee in September, would have seen seven luxury self-contained pods built on Vale Farm in Bell Green Lane.

The site was used an equestrian paddock with hopes that the new short break facilities would provide amenities for those visiting local attractions.

The proposals had previously come under scrutiny by residents who opposed building the pods on green belt land and expressed their worries over increased traffic to the area and noise disturbance.

One resident, Lee Volante, said: “I live nearby to the proposed development site and regularly travel along Bell Green Lane.

“It is difficult to see how the proposed development would not increase noise and traffic in the area especially to immediate neighbours and so be detrimental to the Green Belt.”

Another resident, Conleth Cunningham, added: “We enjoy living in a quiet, rural location and understand that development is restricted in Green Belt which is one of the main reasons that attracted us to the area.

“It has certainly been a surprise to see seven self-contained glamping pods proposed directly adjacent to our home.

“We have the following concerns including the principal of the development is unacceptable in the Green Belt, the adverse impact on residential amenities by reason of noise and disturbances, loss of privacy and overbearing impact and the visual impact and design of the proposed structures.”

Residents were also concerned about the location and speed limit in the area which they believe would be dangerous for tourists unfamiliar with the roads.

One resident, Denise Kelly, said: “The proposed access to the site is located after a sharp blind bend on a national speed limit road. There have been many accidents on this part of the road that have seen numerous vehicles crashing into the ditch at the precise location of access.

“This is particularly treacherous in winter and for those not familiar with the Lane including potential tourists joining the highway.”

The application was withdrawn on Monday, December 4.
