A MAN has been charged with possession of a firearm after being chased on Christmas Day. 

A vehicle was stopped by police in Northfield just before midnight on Christmas Eve.

The occupants of the car left the vehicle in Mill Lane and were later caught by West Midlands Police officers after a foot chase.

Police then searched the vehicle and seized a firearm.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We’ve taken a viable firearm off the streets after a vehicle was stopped in Northfield just before midnight on Christmas Eve.

"Three occupants made off from the car in Mill Lane and two were apprehended after a foot chase.

"A search of the vehicle revealed the weapon".

Jermaine Vassel, aged 19, of Chaddesley Road, Birmingham, was charged with possession of a firearm and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Boxing Day where he was remanded for a further appearance at crown court next month.

A 20-year-old man was released on police bail with strict conditions.
