Barnt Green won by 88 runs

GARETH Andrew's long-awaited Barnt Green debut proved timely as the Worcestershire star helped tear Kenilworth Wardens apart.

Having been a regular fixture for his county, the Birmingham and District League Premier Division leaders were unsure just how much they would see of Andrew.

But the wait for his services proved to be worth it, as he took 4-15 in an immaculate 11-over spell.

In a game reduced to 42 overs per side, Nathan Newport got Green off to a good start making 48, while Richard Hall (44) maintained his fine form.

Stuart Shephard (0), Paul Coverale (5) and Paul Bedford (0) failed to get going, as a mini collapse ensued, before skipper Dougie Brown knocked a solid 30 to guide Green to an impressive total.

Andrew and Mehraj Ahmed struck early in Wardens' innings and it was one way traffic from there on in.

Mehraj backed up Andrew with a superb spell of 3-24 from seven overs, while Brown took 1-29.

There were also wickets for Coverdale (1-12) and spinner Phil Mann (1-0), who didn't concede a run from his two overs.

Green were watched by Bromsgrove MP Julie Kirkbride and the Barnt Green branch of the Conservative Association on Saturday.

The group were special guests at the Cherry Hill Road clash.

Before the action began, Ms Kirkbride presented skipper Dougie Brown with a bottle of champagne, for him to award to Barnt Green's man of the match.

Afterwards, Brown nominated Richard Hall for the award, after his impressive batting performance.
