A brand-new scheme is set to come to Bromsgrove and Rubery Libraries this winter.

Once launched, Libraries Unlocked will allow customers aged 15 and over as well as local community organisations to use the library outside staff opening hours if they upgrade to a free membership.

Ahead of its introduction, Worcestershire County Council is inviting library members to find out more about the new initiative in sessions running from 10am to 11.30am on Thursday, February 15 at Rubery Library and 10am to 11.30am on Tuesday, February 20 at Bromsgrove Library.

The session will also allow members to share their thoughts on how the community can make the most of the new service.

Councillor Marcus Hart said: "I am thrilled that Libraries Unlocked is coming to Bromsgrove and Rubery Libraries and urge you to drop by and learn how it works, the benefits and how you can make the most of the new service.

"Libraries Unlocked is a brilliant idea that empowers families, working parents, and the entire community to access the library at their convenience."

As a Libraries Unlocked member, residents will be able to benefit from using the library at any time, whether to borrow or return books, use free library computers and wi-fi, enjoy dedicated study space, attend community events and hire meeting rooms for free.

Existing Libraries Unlocked members in areas already using the scheme have said it is a "brilliant idea and it's enabled us as a family to access the library more" and that it is the "best thing Worcestershire Libraries have done since the introduction of self-service".
