A popular walking route in Bromsgrove has been closed for several weeks due to maintenance work.

Bromsgrove District Council revealed that the pathways to the north of St John the Baptist Church near the New Cemetery were closed from Sunday, February 11 and will not be reopened to the community until the end of March.

This is due to significant but essential resurfacing work that is taking place over the next few weeks.

Environmental Services Portfolio Holder at Bromsgrove District Council, Peter Whittaker, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the closure and aim to get the work completed as quickly as possible.

"The works will make the area safer for both residents using the area on their way through the town and visitors to the church."

Vicar of St John's, Rev Ray Khan, added: "The churchyard is an oasis for many and a popular cut through too.

"The church and the council have been concerned over the condition of the paths. I am grateful for the work that the council will do to make this oasis a continued space for peace and journeying."
