A main road in Bromsgrove is closed until the end of March potentially causing travel chaos for drivers.

Phase two of the development work by Bellway Homes started today (Monday, February 19) placing Whitford Road under a full road closure whilst the work is carried out.

Worcestershire County Council has granted permission for the works to be carried out between today and Friday, March 22.

The closure will be in place from the roundabout with Millfield Road, Sunningdale Road and Fox Lane and will end at the northern Deansway Access.

A diversion is in place but drivers are being warned to expect delays.

In a post on social media, Traffic Bromsgrove said: "Access to Deansway, Echells Close and Timberhoger Lane will only be possible from the Kidderminster Road direction.

"There will be no through route for the duration of the works and a signed diversion will be in place through town. The same as the last phase.

"Please keep in mind that this might have an impact on traffic heading into town particularly Worcester Road, Kidderminster Road and Hanover Street."

The development work is set to be carried out in four phases with phase two set to last until May 24.

Residents should expect road closures in the area until mid-August as phases three and four get underway.
