POLICE are investigating a reported car key burglary in Fairfield, Worcestershire.

The incident happened in Brook Road at around 2.40am on Monday March 5.

PCSO Simon Cadwallader, who covers Bromsgrove North and Rural, said: “We want to reassure the community we are doing all that we can to trace those responsible.”

In a neighbourhood alert, he said perpetrators of car key burglaries often ‘work to order and target specific vehicles based on demand. He said criminals will sometimes follow victims home or cruise around residential areas looking for opportunities.

People can reduce their chances of falling victim to a car key burglary by following these simple steps: • keep keys somewhere safe and out of sight • lock the car away safely in the garage, if possible • fit a high quality alarm to the vehicle • use additional security systems such immobilisers and visible security locks • take keys when leaving the vehicle unattended • keep keys safe and concealed in public places • make sure doors, windows, the boot and sunroof are secure when leaving the vehicle • park a lesser valued vehicle behind the more expensive one on the driveway, making it more difficult to remove, if there are multiple vehicles at the property • make sure all windows and doors are securely locked on the property • install a high quality burglar alarm • install an exterior security lighting system •call 999 if a crime is in progress Anyone with information about the incident in Fairfield is asked to contact police by calling 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
