A MAN has been charged with robbery and possession of a firearm following a spate of suspected carjackings. 

Damien Scarlett, aged 34, from Wythall has been charged in connection with a series of suspected carjackings across the Solihull area. 

West Midlands Police said a "viable firearm" was seized as part of the investigation. 

He was charged with robbery, attempted robbery, two counts of possession of firearm and several driving offences.

Spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Scarlett has been remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court next month. 

"Over the last few days three suspected carjackings have taken place in Hall Green, Chadwick End and Earlswood where vehicles have been taken following threats made with a weapon.

"We also arrested a man, aged 39 and a woman, aged 40 in connection with the incidents. 

"They have since been released on bail while our enquiries continue".
