THE suspect in a fatal crash which killed three people including a boy aged six appeared in court on crutches today.

Joe-Lewis Tyler, age 33 and of Grenville Road, Dines Green, Worcester appeared before Kidderminster Magistrates Court today (Saturday) charged with multiple offences including three counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

His appearance follows the fatal crash on the A44 in Spetchley, Worcester, last month which killed three people: six-year-old Leo Painter; Claire Adkins, aged 39; and Courtney Hemming, aged 26, both from Worcester.

The bearded defendant, who was on crutches, appeared in the remand court dock in court one at around 12.40pm, flanked by two dock officers. He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, address, the name of his legal representative and that he understood the charges against him.

Two police officers were also at court to observe proceedings.

Tyler has been charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving following the fatal crash on the A44 in Spetchley on Thursday, February 22.

He has also been charged with one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving; three counts of causing death whilst uninsured and one count of taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.

The crash happened around 3pm when a grey BMW 3 series collided with a white Ford Mondeo.

Claire Adkins, aged 39, and Courtney Hemming, aged 26, both from Worcester, died at the scene when the white Ford Mondeo, which they were travelling in, was in collision with a grey BMW 3 series.

Six-year-old Leo Painter, also in the Mondeo, was rushed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital but died a short time later.

No application for bail was made by Tyler's solicitor, Sarah Brady. The case was prosecuted by Virinder Bains and the case was heard by a bench of three magistrates, chaired by Simon Egerton.

Mr Egerton, the chairman of the bench, said: "In respect of the alleged offences we will remand you in custody. You are due back in Worcester Crown Court on April 15 at 9.30pm for a 10am start. Go with the officers."
