Six West Midlands state schools feature on Daily Mail top 100 list

A HANDFUL of 'outstanding' schools in the West Midlands region have been named in a list of the top 100 state schools in the UK.

Ahead of the start of a new school year, the Daily Mail consulted the Good Schools Guide, GCSE results, and analysed numbers of extracurricular activities and class sizes to compile its top 100 list.

There are no schools in Worcestershire or the Black Country in the list, but schools in Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon feature.

Here are the West Midlands schools that feature in the Daily Mail's best 100 state schools list:

 

St Paul's School for Girls, Edgbaston, Birmingham

The state school for girls, founded by in 1908, has an 'outstanding' Ofsted rating.

Ex-pupils include Harry Potter, Mamma Mia! and Billy Elliott actress Julie Walters.

Last year, the percentage of students achieving a grade of 5 or above in English and maths at GCSE was 82.2 per cent.

 

King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls, Birmingham

This selective Birmingham school also has an 'outstanding' Ofsted rating.

In 2024, 100 per cent of pupils gained a grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSE.

Alumni at the school includes MP Jess Phillips.

 

King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys, Birmingham

The 'oustanding' state school has been described as an "academic powerhouse" by the Good Schools Guide.

All students gained a grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSE in 2024, with 89.7 per cent of all GCSEs graded at 7 or more.

 

King Edward VI School, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire

The small grammar school for boys has been praised for its curriculum and high academic achievement.

The bard himself William Shakespeare attended the school and is often referred to as 'Shakespeare's School.'

in 2024, 86.3 per cent of all GCSEs were graded at 7 or more.

 

Rugby High School, Rugby, Warwickshire

The 'outstanding' selective girls' grammar has a mixed sixth form and was praised for being "full of life" by the Good Schools Guide.

In 2024, 96.4 per cent of students gained 5 or above in English and maths at GCSE and 80 per cent of students took the English Baccalaureate.

 

Stratford Girls' Grammar School, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire

The schools has strong results with 86 per cent of all GCSEs graded at 7 or more last year.

The school is set in a 15th-century building with state-of-the-art facilities and a "mountain" of extra-curricular activities.

92.2 per cent of pupils gained 5 or above in English and maths last year.
