A TOUCH of television glamour arrived to Bromsgrove this week as antiques expert Nick Davies paid a special visit to a care home.
The well-known ‘Flog It!’ presenter spent the afternoon meeting Cofton Park Manor Care Home residents, examining treasured possessions and sharing his knowledge of sparkling silverware and family heirlooms.
Among those delighted to meet him was 93-year-old Robert Allen, a former worker in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter.
Robert who regularly handled hallmarked pieces during his career, said the visit brought back fond memories.
“It was very interesting to listen to Nick and his stories,” he said.
“I used to see hallmarks regularly in my line of work, so hearing about how they’re identified and what they mean brought back a lot of memories.”
During the event, Nick explained how silver hallmarks are used to determine an item’s origin, age and purity, fascinating residents and staff alike with insights into Britain’s rich silversmithing heritage.
He was also presented with an array of personal treasures, from wedding gifts and inherited keepsakes to souvenirs gathered over decades.
Each item sparked conversation, with residents sharing the stories behind their most cherished belongings.
Nick said: “I have had a wonderful afternoon at Cofton Park Manor. It’s so interesting to see so many different items that people have brought here today.
“Every object has a story behind it, and that’s what makes events like this so special.”
Residents including Iris Bessent, Pat Westwood, Molly Giles, Ann Taylor and Kay Postings gathered alongside Robert for photographs with the TV expert.
