ARTS organisations have been appointed to lead three new creative commissions in Bromsgrove as part of the ReNEW Sharing Stories, Shaping Future programme.
The programme sits at the heart of ReNEW’s ambition to grow a thriving cultural landscape across North East Worcestershire, celebrating local pride, strengthening community ties and creating professional arts opportunities for young people across digital, visual and performing arts.
Overhear Ltd will lead Awe and Wander, a digital arts project designed to connect communities with nearby green spaces, with a particular focus on under-represented neighbourhoods.
Using digital creativity and storytelling, the project will help people engage with nature in accessible and inspiring ways.
Trigger Productions has been appointed to spearhead Wagons Roll, a performing arts project inspired by the colourful fairground traditions that have helped shape local culture since the late nineteenth century.
It will honour the creativity, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit of generations of Showmen and their families.
Visual arts organisation INSTAR will bring the third commission to life, inviting residents to share stories, memories and experiences inspired by local landscapes, which will then shape new artworks and participatory activities.
Councillor Shirley Webb, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, leisure and culture, said: "By appointing such wonderful organisations to help us celebrate our heritage, our landscapes, and the people who call Bromsgrove home the ReNEW programme is helping to strengthen pride of place and create memorable cultural experiences that can be enjoyed by everyone.”
Petro Nicolaides, chair of the North East Worcestershire Cultural Compact, said the programme is about 'putting local people at the heart of creativity' and creating meaningful opportunities for all ages to engage with arts and culture.
The three projects will be developed over the coming months, with public engagement activities across the area, and are due to run until late 2027.
