A BROMSGROVE resident is in training for a marathon challenge raising money for a cancer charity.

James Whelton, from Stoke Heath, is running the London Marathon on April 17 to help the Anthony Nolan charity.

James decided to represent the charity in support of his brother-in-law Jonjo Rooney who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukaemia in 2006.

The trust helped to locate a donor for him to successfully receive a bone marrow transport. Jonjo is now in remission, and James hopes the money he raises will help others to survive cancer.

James, 22, said: “I am looking forward to this huge personal challenge and hope I can raise £2,000 through the generosity of others.”

A fundraising day is also being held at the Hanbury Turn, in Stoke Heath, on April 30 in aid of the trust.
