BROMSGROVE was gripped by Royal Wedding fever on Friday, (April 29).

AS Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot, residents across the town held celebrations and street parties to mark the historic occasion.

Lickey End Playgroup held their own royal wedding on April 27.

Youngsters played starring roles in the mock ceremony at the Alcester Road-based playgroup, including the roles of bride and groom, Prince Charles and Camilla, and even Victoria and David Beckham.

After the ceremony a party was held with guests enjoying strawberries and cream, cream teas, cupcakes, and a handmade wedding cake.

The money raised from the event is to be used to buy new toys for the youngsters to enjoy.

Bright Eyes Montessori Day Nursery, in Shenstone Close, also held a mock wedding ceremony as part of their royal wedding celebrations.

Youngsters had the chance to get married and walk down the red carpet, watched by parents, grandparents and carers who dropped in.

On the day of the wedding, communities were brought together for parties in honour of the new royal couple.

Residents turned out for a street party in Mikado Road, in the Oakalls, complete with bunting, a banner, and a bbq.

Emilia Jones, who helped organise the event, said everyone who attended had a “really good time”.

Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid attended two events last Friday, Blackwell’s Party in the park and a wedding party at The Princess of Wales Community Hospital.

He said: “People all over Bromsgrove were glued to their screens, and the parties were full of joy.

“What a magical and magnificent day that made me so proud to be British.”
