COUNCILLORS have agreed to release £25,000 to build new toilets in Bromsgrove Cemetery.

District council leader Roger Hollingworth raised the scheme at the last meeting of the full council on January 18, proposing councillors agreed to the project so work could begin immediately.

Councillor Mike Webb told members the council knew the toilets at the cemetery, in Church Road, were “not at the standard we would want in Bromsgrove”, and had started discussing them last year.

The cemetery has been using a portable toilet provided by the council for staff and the public, but ongoing costs from its hire had increased the need for new toilets.

At a cabinet meeting, held earlier this month, members agreed to task officers with producing a report into the business cases for the work. Cabinet members had also agreed to take the issue out of the budget process, in a bid to speed up the building of the toilets.

The scheme was given the go-ahead unanimously by councillors.
