BIG-hearted townsfolk are gearing up for a charity fun run for a leukaemia charity.

This year’s Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research fun run is being held at Bromsgrove Rugby Club in Finstall Park on Sunday, May 13.

This is the 24th year of the event, which has been organised annually since 1989 by Stoke Heath fund-raiser Nicole Harris.

Last year's event raised more than £7,000, with the money going to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity, which helps fund vital research to prevent, treat and cure cancer diseases.

On the day there will be the usual 10k for more serious runners, which starts at 11am. The 5k race starts five minutes later.

All entrants receive a fund-raising pack, a race number and finishing medal. Anyone who signs up in advance receives a t-shirt.

There are prizes for finishing first, second and third in both male and female categories, and for veterans. Prizes have been donated by Altered Images, in Worcester Road.

The pre-booking entrance fee is £9 for all races, £8.50 for Athletic Association affiliated members, or £10 to enter on the day.

Registrations will close at 10.40am, so runners entering on the day are advised to arrive early.

Changing rooms, a massage service and a barbecue will be available at the event.

Nicole said: “People are coming from all over the country for this event.

“So far we have over 100 runners taking part and anticipate to triple this figure by the day.”

Anyone wanting to pre-book can do so by calling Nicole on 01527 878493 or email nicnoelharris@aol.com.

Nicole is also looking for marshalls for the day. Anyone interested is asked to contact Nicole on the same number and email.

Nicole’s Forget Me Not Walk, cancelled on April 30 due to storms, has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 27.

New entrants are welcome. For more details see forgetmenotwalks.com.
