AN east-west divide had split Droitwich Spa into a town of the haves and have-nots, Peter Pinfield claimed. Mr Pinfield, who had been involved in Droitwich Spa politics for 16 years, blamed the layout of Droitwich as the root of the problem having a main road running through the middle.

He said the best houses were built on one side.The claim was rejected by Councillor Eileen Hope who said large council estates were built on the east side where land was available.

ORGANISERS of Bromsgrove Carnival were holding a post-mortem meeting in a bid to make next year’s event even better. Carnival chairman Peter Jones said the 1987 carnival had been successful, but they always tried to hold a meeting afterwards in order to talk about possible improvements. Mr Jones said they needed new ideas and fresh talent to help organise and plan the events.

THE Dolphin Centre – Bromsgrove’s revamped leisure centre in School Drive – was on course for a grand reopening by Christmas. The changing rooms still needed to be modernised in time for the arrival of an aquasplash – the £75,000 water flume which it was thought would prove a big attraction at the centre with people from around the area.
