The meeting was opened by president Joy Perrygrove who welcomed everybody and thanked them for attending.

She introduced Maureen Prust who had been the link delegate at the resolutions meeting concerned with requesting the Government to provide more mid-wives.

A continuing heal-thy bank balance was reported by Christine Clarke, treasurer, who also asked members to order their calendars and diaries for 2013. A report on Catshill fun day was given by Joy who reported on a successful, but slightly lesser rewarding day financially than previous years. The weather had brought its problems and at one point a torrential downpour could easily have destroyed the cakes donated for selling. She thanked all the members who had contributed to the day with items for sale or helped with the stall. A special word of thanks went to Lorna Nicklin and her husband Dave for erecting the gazebo.

This was extended to Doreen Croxton for creating a lively and informative recruitment poster and husband John for erecting this on site. The speaker for the evening, Tony Deakin, talked about his voluntary work with hospital radio.

He was assisted by his wife and daughter during the evening. Members learned how recording techniques and putting request programmes together had changed over the years from playing discs to computerised methods.

He had interviewed many well known entertainers and mentioned the late Sir Norman Wisdom, Pat Routledge and the stars of Birds of a Feather Pauline Quirk, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph. The bowling group requested more support as they were experiencing problems in having enough members to play matches. A social evening will be held at the home of Maxime Hanlon on August 16 at 7.30pm.

The evening was concluded with refreshments. The monthly competition was won by Cynthia Newnham with a favourite CD. The next meeting will be held on September 10 at Catshill village hall at 7.45pm.
