THE long wait was over for students across Bromsgrove who celebrated after the release of their A Level results today, (August 16).

South Bromsgrove High School's headteacher Paul Topping said he was delighted after the school received its best ever results.

The number of higher grades was the best achieved by the school, as 55 per cent of students received a high grade from A* to C.

An impressive 12 students gained straight A* and A grades, setting them up for further studies in dentistry, medicine and law.

Almost all the schools’ students holding offers have received confirmation of university places.

The headteacher said: “On behalf of the governors and staff I would like to offer my congratulations.

“These results highlight, once again, the outstanding standards in sixth form education at South.

“They are a tribute to the dedication of students, the quality of teaching and the support from parents and families.”

Bromsgrove School achieved the best ever top end A Level results in the school's history.

Of the 170 pupils who sat 598 A Levels an impressive 88 per cent achieved A* to B grades, with 61 per cent at A* and A.

Among the school’s top performers was Elizabeth Leather, who secured a choral scholarship to Oxford College, Merton, after achieving an A* in music, as well as 40 points in the International Baccalaureate.

The school’s average UCAS point tariff at A Levels was 440 - the equivalent to one A*, two As at A level, and a further A grade at an AS level.

Headmaster Chris Edwards said: “To secure these sensational averages in a year when many bright pupils actually opted for the International Baccalaureate and achieved equally stunning outcomes is nothing less than remarkable.

“Staff, pupils and parents should be bursting with pride."

Pupils at North Bromsgrove High School helped the school achieve an overall pass rate of 95 per cent.
Colin Hardy was among the school’s top performers achieved A* in all his A Level subjects.
The school’s new headteacher, David Hadley-Pryce, said: “We are thrilled for the students and with the success of our sixth form.
“North is continuously improving and we are delighted with these results”.

At NEW College’s Sixth Form Centre, a total of 11 A Level subjects achieved 100 per cent pass rates, including English language and literature, business studies, psychology, sociology and physics.

Principal John Callaghan said: “Both the A Level and AS Level students have once again done us proud.

“Alongside the success, the AS Level pass rates improved on last year’s results with students continuing to do well at each level.

"It’s always a pleasure to see the students’ hard work pay off, and this year is no different.”
