KNIGHTS in shining armour are getting ready to do battle at a Bromsgrove open air museum this Bank Holiday weekend.

On Sunday, August 26 and Monday, August 27, more than 100 re-enactors will be appearing at Avoncroft Museum, in Redditch Road, Stoke Heath, and recreating a full scale battle during the turbulent times of the War of the Roses.

The name comes from the rivalry between the royal houses which were represented by roses - a red rose for the House of Lancaster and a white rose for the House of York.

The war that will be re-enacted will be the second battle of St Albans, which happened on February 17, 1461.

Visitors will be able to watch the rival 15th century knights in full armour portraying the battles.

On the day there will also be archery, firepower and the chance for visitors to walk through a medieval battle.

The day also includes food and costume demonstrations and talks on weapons and armour.

Children can get involved by dressing up in costumes, practicing their skirmishing skills, and participating in the knight’s quest treasure hunt.

A show of combat display will round off the entertainment.

Bernie Huntingdon, spokesman for Avoncroft Museum, said: “This is a very popular event that holds the interest of adults and children for the day.”

Admission costs are £7.70 for adults, £6.60 for seniors, £4 for children. A family ticket, two adults and three children, cost £19.80.

Members go free.
