PEOPLE with autism will be able to shop in a more comfortable environment at Sainsbury’s Amblecote tonight.
The store will be holding Autism Hour from 7pm to 8pm with the tannoy turned down, café music turned off and a calmer shopping experience.
Staff have received training about autism as the supermarket teamed up with The National Autistic Society to become more autism friendly.
It has already run two other Autism Hours on Monday morning and Wednesday early evening.
Store manager Kevin Healy said: “We’re extremely proud to be supporting the National Autistic Society’s Autism Hour.
“It’s an excellent initiative, which will not only help increase awareness and understanding of autism amongst our colleagues and customers for people but also provides an enhanced shopping experience for people in the local community with autism.”
This year the National Autistic Society has signed up 7,000 shops with celebrities backing the campaign including Chris Packham, Anne Hegerty and Christine McGuinness.
