COMMUTERS and residents will have the chance to find out more about a multi-million revamp of Kidderminster’s train station at an open day.

Worcestershire County Council, along with project partners, are hosting the event at the station on Tuesday, November 6 from 7.30am to 6pm and will be on hand to answer questions and update people on the plans.

Work on the station is part of a £50 million project the authority is spending on rail improvements across the county.

The major redevelopment at Kidderminster will see the construction of a new glass-fronted station building with a café, fully accessible toilets and indoor seating and waiting area.

The forecourt will be reshaped with a new drop-off and collection zone, relocated taxi rank and new traffic flow arrangements aimed at improving pedestrian safety and easing congestion.

Highway works on Comberton Hill have recently taken place and include improved bus shelters and a new pedestrian crossing.

Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Economy and Infrastructure, said: "As the main bulk of work starts soon, I'm delighted that the Project Team is taking the opportunity to talk to passengers, businesses and local residents about the transformation works that will happen over the coming months.

"With this station being the second busiest in the county with almost a fifth of all rail travel in the county either starting stopping here, this investment is very much welcomed."

The website also will be fully updated from November 6 so if anyone is unable to attend the Open Day, they can visit www.worcestershire.gov.uk/kidderminsterstation.
