TWO district centres could see major regeneration and improvement works if plans go ahead to redevelop the areas.

Redditch Council is currently investigating the potential to revamp both Matchborough and Winyates District Centres, with plans to work with Worcestershire County Council, Homes England, and NWEDR to bring the concepts to life.

Options for the areas may include a mix of new housing development, the regeneration of the local shopping centres and improvements to landscaping and the local environment to create a high quality new development bringing lasting benefits to local residents.

The report, which went before Executive Committee earlier this month, was passed meaning that works can now take place to test the development options, inviting experienced developers to come forward to work with the council and Homes England on the scheme.

Before any potential schemes are considered, residents, visitors and businesses will have the opportunity to give their views through a full consultation.

The council has also submitted a bid for funding from the Government’s One Public Estate programme which will help with the cost of reviewing the development options. The council will find out if they have been successful in February.

Councillor Matt Dormer, leader of the Council, said: “Should the schemes go ahead as planned, they will provide great opportunities for existing businesses, tenants and residents as well as drawing in new business and people wanting to relocate.

"This is the kind of investment we want and need for our town and could be another step towards unlocking Redditch.”
