PLANS which could see a European event held in Redditch was top of the agenda during a second tranche of top talks between council leaders and Royal Enfield bosses.

The possibility of a massive event was mooted during a recent meeting as both parties looked at how they can work together in the future, to benefit the town.

The meeting follows an inaugural get together at the end of last year when the partnership between the motorbike giants and the council was struck.

Both parties recognise that Redditch, as Royal Enfield’s birthplace, is an important part of the company’s brand going forward although plans for the event are in their infancy.

Speaking after the meeting, the council’s portfolio holder for leisure & cultural services, councillor Mike Rouse, said: “We are on the road to something huge for Redditch that will really put us on the map across Europe.

“We’ve got a lot of details and logistics to arrange, and as soon as we have solid plans we’ll publish them for all to see as we really want to bring the people of Redditch with us on this spectacular journey.”

Leader of the council, councillor Matt Dormer, added: “It has been fantastic to meet with Royal Enfield who is keen to work with Redditch Borough Council on something spectacular for our town, which they recognise is the spiritual home of the Royal Enfield brand.

“This is something we can all be very proud of.

“I will now focus on engaging our strategic partners across the region who will be vital in supporting us to further unlock this opportunity.”

Mark Spiller, from Eicher Motors, which owns the Royal Enfield brand, said: “We have been impressed by what Redditch has to offer and we’re excited to continue our talks.

“2019 is an exciting year for Royal Enfield and I am delighted that its birthplace will play a part in this.”
