RESIDENTS in Oakenshaw are complaining after Redditch Council gave the go-ahead for a number of trees to get the axe on a busy street.

Crews with chainsaws and a cherry picker made short work of the trees yesterday on Pheasant Road, which locals now say resembles 'a council tip'.

One local resident said: "It's awfully upsetting for the people who live here - the beautiful trees and shrubs have all been destroyed.

"It's awful, everyone is so upset about the look of the road. All the beautiful trees and shrubs have all been cut right back and in some cases hacked down.

"Originally you could not see the back of the houses as there were lovely trees and bushes, now the road just looks like an eyesore."

They said they were also upset that the council didn't do enough to let people in the neighbourhood know the trees were coming down.

The Advertiser reported recently that the council is cutting down a number of trees as part of ongoing work to maintain Redditch’s woodlands.
