A SUPERMARKET worker from Stourport is to feature on a Mother's Day card sold across the UK to raise money for Cancer Research.

Donna Amies, who works in Tesco's superstore in Severn Road, has had the story of her ongoing battle with cancer included on a card designed by Hallmark.

It is hoped the card, which will be sold in all large Tesco stores until March 31, will connect with and support other people affected by cancer this Mother's Day, as well as raising funds for charity.

Donna said: "Cancer has taken so much from me - my body, my hair and my pride and so much more. But it’s not taken my fight and I will never stop fighting or lose faith and I will never let cancer win.

“It’s tough mentally but that’s okay because I’m thankful to be alive and to see another day."

Donna will join thousands of women - and for the first time men and children - in this year's Cancer Research UK Race for Life, which has been supported by Tesco for 18 years.

"I run for my mum who I know is looking over me and she always gives me the strength to fight and carry on," said Donna.

“It’s the toughest thing I’ve ever faced and the effect it’s had on my body makes it difficult but I’m learning to love myself again and I’m kicking cancer’s ass and doing the run shows that to everyone.”

Hallmark, Tesco and Cancer Research UK will be presenting Donna with a special framed version of her card to mark the occasion and thank her for sharing her story to inspire others.

Sarah Pickersgill, head of events marketing for Cancer Research UK, said: “We are very grateful to Donna and Tesco for their support. By following Donna’s lead, and joining the Race for Life, everyone can make a real difference to people with cancer, right now.

“Race for Life events are fun, colourful and uplifting for all involved. Taking part in the events enables like-minded people to get together and remember loved ones lost to cancer or celebrate the lives of those who have survived.”

Laura Washington, from Hallmark, said, “Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer, so we know how important it is to raise both funds and awareness of this disease that affects so many lives.

“This is the second year we’ve supported Cancer Research with a Mother’s Day card collection excusive to Tesco, and we are really pleased the range has increased significantly for 2019.

"The cards are a huge celebration of all the mum’s and grandmas across the UK, made even more poignant with the inspirational stories from some wonderful women at Tesco.”
