A CAR was destroyed by fire in an enclosure at West Midland Safari Park.

In the video, a plume of black smoke can be seen rising from the lion enclosure, with a fire engine seen climbing the hill to tackle the blaze.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a crew from Kidderminster attended the incident at 12.22pm today (Thursday) and that one small vehicle was destroyed by fire.

A safari park spokesman said: “We can confirm that we have recently dealt with a vehicle fire in our lion enclosure.

”All of the animals, guests and staff are safe.

”The swift reaction from our staff meant that the vehicle was evacuated and lions were put away safely.

”The emergency services attended promptly, and we would like to thank them for their quick response."

The incident was declared closed at 1.44pm.
