THE inquest has opened into the deaths of two young brothers from Dudley who were killed in a horror car crash last week.

Brothers Sanjay Singh, aged 10, and Pawanveer Singh, aged 23 months, were killed when the car they were travelling in with their mother was hit by an Audi S3 on the Birmingham New Road in Wolverhampton on March 14.

Both brothers died at the scene.

Coroner Zafar Siddique formally opened the inquest into their deaths at Black Country Coroner's Court on March 21.

He said one man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a second man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on March 17. Both men have been released pending further investigation.

Mr Siddique gave his condolences to members of Sanjay and Pawanveer's family who were in attendance.

He said: "I would like to take the opportunity to offer all of you my deepest, deepest condolences. No words I can say can reflect what's happened.

"It's shaken the community. Everyone offers their deepest condolences.

"It has left the community in shock. The loss of children in any circumstances is devastating."

He added: "We are all here to support you."

Mr Siddique adjourned the inquest for 12 weeks to allow the police to carry out their investigations.
