A MAN from Kidderminster has been jailed after assaulting two police officers and causing significant damage at a property.

Darren Paolucci, aged 50, of Mill Lane, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday, April 13, where he pleaded guilty to three offences.

At around 12.45pm last Friday (April 12), officers attended a disturbance in Kidderminster, where Paolucci had caused significant damage at a property.

While being arrested, he punched two officers a number of times, causing one of them to require hospital treatment.

The two officers have now recovered from the assault and are now back on duty.

Paolucci was taken to custody and charged with criminal damage to a property, assault actual bodily harm and assault of an emergency worker the following day.

On Saturday, he was convicted of all three charges, and sentenced to one year in prison.

He was also ordered to pay compensation.

Investigating officer, PC Matthew Ling from West Mercia Police said: "This was an abhorrent assault on two police officers, who were simply doing their job. I am pleased that we were able to promptly arrest, charge and subsequently secure a conviction against Paolucci for his actions.

"Emergency service personnel put themselves in harm's way every day to help and protect members of our community. Like everyone else they have a right to work safely and without the threat of violence, and I hope this conviction sends a message that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated."
