MEMBERS of Hagley Golf Club have raised an impressive £13,500 for charity Loaves and Fishes which provides practical help for disadvantaged people across the Black Country.
Former captain Geoff Tibbetts chose to fundraise for the charity during his captaincy year, during which £15,500 was raised overall by the time his captaincy came to a close in March.
Hundreds of items, such as clothes and furniture, were also donated by members and their families to help families in need.
The money was raised through events such as captain's day and a charity dinner and marked how Geoff has seen the charity grow from a small operation in Blackheath to a major charity that works across the Black Country.
Loaves and Fishes moved from their previous base in Blackheath to the Dudley town centre building last year,
where they have opened the Provision House Emporiumon the ground floor and a warehouse from which they supply furniture, food and items for people in need across the Black Country.
Geoff explained: "It appealed to me because they don't get much help from anyone else and are run by volunteers.
"The charity has grown and grown, it started in a garage in Netherton."
Geoff handed the cheque to Mark Price, CEO of Loaves and Fishes, at the opening of Provision House in Dudley town centre.
