HISTORIC features of Brierley Hill high street could be restored if Dudley Council bosses are successful in their quest for funding.
Dudley Council is taking a £2 million grant application from Historic England to the next stage to bag millions of pounds to restore the historic features of the high street.
The project, which is ear marked to take place between 2020 and 2024, could see £2.8m of investment come into the town and would see a number of the town’s historical buildings be repaired.
If the next stage of funding is successful, vacant and under-used historic buildings will be restored and the northern and southern gateways of the high street will be given a makeover to improve the appearance of the town.
The creation of a new community green space is also planned for residents and shoppers to sit outside.
lan Lunt, deputy chief executive of Dudley Council, said: "This proposal is great news for Brierley Hill, where so many exciting plans are already taking shape and with the Metro proposals it is a great time for the town.
"As part of the Dudley Deal we are pledging to work with groups, residents and businesses for a brighter tomorrow for all our borough and I am sure everyone in the Brierley Hill community will join us in making the next steps a success for the town."
The council is also asking locals to get involved with the project by taking on litter picks, social archiving, organising community events and celebrating local culture and community.
