STOURBRIDGE Historical Society is hosting a talk about 'The Story of Woolworths' tomorrow night (Thursday January 16).

Peter Bates will be giving the talk in the Wollaston Room at Stourbridge Town Hall on Thursday January 16 from 7.30pm.

A spokesman for the society said: "It will be a welcome return visit from Peter Bates who attracted a very large audience when he came to tell us about English Graveyards last year.

"This year Peter will be explaining how F W Woolworth built his retail empire in the Americas and Europe.

"Also the talk will be about his life, avoidable death, the tragic life of his granddaughter Barbara Hutton and his grandson’s involvement with Wallace Simpson."
