AN Indian restaurant in Belbroughton is offering free meals to elderly people who are self-isolating during the coronavirus pandemic.

Five Spice Restaurant, on Stourbridge Road, will provide a starter, main course and rice to elderly folk who are alone at home.

A Five Spice statement said: "In light of the effects of COVID-19, our thoughts are particularly with the elderly and vulnerable who may have to self-isolate to take precautions.

"We would therefore like to offer a free meal to any elderly person who is self isolating.

"We only ask that they ring us up, speak to our manager to place their order and ask their relative/friend to come and pick up the meal.

"We will be happy to deliver if we have a driver available.

"Together we can overcome this. Unity and compassion."

The restaurant has recently launched an app for its customers which can be found here.

After government decreed on Friday evening that all restaurants must close until further notice, Five Spice closed its doors and is providing a takeaway and delivery service only.

But the restaurant confirmed via social media it would still be offering the free meals to elderly or vulnerable people.
