THIEVES broke into an Aldi store in Dudley and stole alcohol during an early morning raid.

Police are investigating after the Aldi on Priory Road was broken into at around 2am this morning (Thursday, March 26).

The door to the supermarket was forced open and a quantity of alcohol was stolen before the group escaped in a silver Ford Fiesta, police say.

The store was forced to delay opening this morning to repair the damage left by the raiders.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "CCTV enquiries are ongoing as investigations continue.

"Anyone with information can contact us via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, call 101 anytime or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Please quote crime reference number 20DY/76827X/20."

The raid comes as supermarkets around the country come under increasing pressure to meet customer demand during the coronavirus crisis.
