OFFICERS in Redditch were 'spat at, kicked and punched' as several assaults took place across Worcestershire over the weekend.

One incident involved a 'very intoxicated woman,' who police said 'kicked and punched' an officer in the face on Saturday (June 4).

The incident happened outside at the front of Alexandra Hospital. The assault left the officer injured and the suspect was restrained.

She was later arrested and remained at hospital for treatment relating to the reason for her visit.

Also in Redditch, an officer was racially abused by a man in Redditch on Friday (July 3).

When arrested, police said the man spat in the face of another officer. Following a search in custody, drugs were also found in his possession.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault and drugs offences and has now been released under investigation.

Chief Inspector Edward Hancox said: “Violence against police, or any emergency service workers is never acceptable.

"This weekend we saw six officers assaulted in North Worcestershire alone.

"This included officers being spat at, punched and kicked and although no serious injury was caused the impact on officers can be long lasting.

"On each occasion, the suspect was arrested and will be put before a court as such offences will not be tolerated.”
