A LADY has reached the mile stone birthday of 100.

Irene Mable Abbott, who celebrated her birthday on Tuesday October 16 was born towards the end of World War 1 and her son David says she has "always accepted responsibilities and maintained close relationships with family and friends during difficult times."

Irene lives in Pershore but has spent a large part of he life in the Cotswolds.

Irene's husband Frederick and brother in law Douglas served in the army and her brother Stanley was in the navy during World War 2.

Irene's sons Paul and David, who are now in their seventies and forged careers abroad. Paul with his textile business in Brunei and David in North America, Australia and Africa with ICI.

David said she managed through difficult times on her own after the bereavement of her husband over 40 years ago.

Irene's companion and partner Geoffrey Brown is an ex Royal Navy member now in his nineties and is affectionately known as her toy boy by family members.
