THE Football Association has written to Hereford FC and given them a ‘formal warning’ about the behaviour of fans during the away match at FC United of Manchester.

Hereford FC state that the warning ‘relates to one incident which saw an individual encroach onto the playing area, and another that saw a smoke bomb thrown onto the pitch’.

The club stated that the letter from the FA containing the warning notice ‘specifically states that disciplinary action against the club may be considered if further reports of spectator misconduct should be received and The Association reserves the right to refer to the current matter in such circumstances’.

Andrew Graham, the club’s nominated ‘Respect’ Director, told the club’s website: “We feared that a formal warning may be forthcoming and we are extremely disappointed that the behaviour of a tiny minority from our magnificent support has brought this black mark against our club’s name.

“As discussed with the FA, we will continue to try to identify the individuals involved in the incidents at FC United of Manchester and I would again encourage anyone who feels they may have information about these matters to contact the club.

“I truly hope this warning acts as a wake-up call to any supporters who have been involved in unsavoury incidents at Hereford FC fixtures – from our detailed communications with the FA we know that the threat of disciplinary action is not an empty one.

“It is also worth remembering that now we are part of the National League structure, individuals found guilty of a number of football-related offences can be subject to Football Banning Orders, enforced nationally by the Police.

“Finally, while everyone at Edgar Street acknowledges that the vast majority of our fans provide nothing but the very best support, we would ask every single supporter to reflect on the news from the FA this week and ensure that their own behaviour never crosses the line into actions that could have a detrimental impact on the reputation of the club we all care deeply about.”
