THERE'S plenty of bank holiday fun headed our way this weekend - but you might want to wrap up just a bit to make the most of it.

The forecast is for a mix of sunny intervals and light cloud, so some warm clothing may be needed if you are heading out to one of the fairs, festivals or food events taking place.

The good news is that it looks as if the rain will hold off most of the time.

The bad news is temperatures of 12, 11, 10 and 13 degrees Celsius respectively from Friday to Monday won't exactly make it shirt-sleeve weather.

We've been looking ahead to what's on offer around the area and here is our guide to some of the best that's on offer!

ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR:

May bank holiday would not be the same without the May Fair, and Herefordshire has not one, but two.

Starting off in Leominster on Thursday, the May Fair runs through to Saturday and has all the usual attractions of rides, stalls, entertainment, arcade, and a few ancient customs (well the fair does date back centuries).

The fair fun then switches to Hereford for three days, opening on Tuesday afternoon.

FOOD FESTIVALS:

There's plenty to choose from, especially if you're willing to travel a few miles.

How about adding a bit of spice to your life with Eastnor Castle's ChilliFest on Sunday and Monday, 10.30-5.30pm.

The chilli market in the courtyard will offer such things as chocolate, bread, cake, vodka, cocktails and chutney.

The outdoor cookery demonstration theatre will host Herefordshire’s Beefy Boys and Felice Tocchini, plus Imran Nathoo, food blogger and MasterChef 2017 Quarterfinalist.

Meanwhile, the Harper Adams University at Newport, Shropshire, is holding a Field to Fork food festival on Saturday, 10am – 5pm.

How about trying out an edible insect dish, part of a range of talks and activities to introduce people to the role of ecology in a sustainable future for food.

There will also be lots of traditional food stalls, plus live music and family fun in the shape of such things as a soft play area, go karting, archery and meet the farm animals.

BEER LOVERS

A beer festival for Ross-on-Wye on May 4, noon to 11pm.

Showcasing locally made beers and ciders, there is also a live band stage for music throughout and an indoor ‘beerhall’ with a food tent alongside.

Organised by Ross Rotary and Ross Lions who raise funds for charitable good causes.

Meanwhile the Swan Brewery at Leominster is holding a free Tasting Day on May 3 from 9:00am to 6:00pm. There's a drink on the house for everyone, complemented by Sausage in a Roll.

GARDENS AND PLANTS

THE Hergest Croft Gardens Spring Fair in Kington runs from 10am to 5.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday and is set to attract up to 40 plant and craft stalls from a wide range of local specialist nurseries this year.

On May 3 and 4, from 10.30am-4pm St Michael's Hospice at Bartestree is holding its plant fair.

Plant lovers can browse a wide range, while there there also be fresh strawberries and asparagus; handcrafted wooden jewellery and decor; pottery and preserves; natural honey products; organic fruit and vegetables.

The Spring Greens Environmental Fair on May 4 & 5 May in the grounds of Court of Noke, Staunton-on-Arrow, Pembridge, promises stalls, exhibitions, local foods, music, art & crafts activities and poetry.

FOOD AND FLOWERS

That's the title of the festival at Presteigne on Monday - a celebration of local food and gardens. Stalls will line the High Street and Broad Street, showcasing the best local food and drink producers and wonderful plant and garden-related stalls.

Musicians and choirs will entertain around the streets.

CIDER LOVERS

Big Apple Blossomtime Weekend starting May 5, from 10am to 5pm at Ledbury, celebrates springtime and all things cider.

Local orchards in the parishes on the Marcle Ridge are famous for their cider and there is a grand cider tasting, plus teas, and orchard walks.
