An art and crafts festival at Kington has been rated a major success after attracting visitors from far and wide.

The Marches Makers Festival had more than 400 works by local artists and makers on display and involved ten venues throughout the town, including the church, cafes, a pub, gardens and shop windows.

Chair Helen Speed said: “We had visitors from far and wide and even from overseas so we must be doing something right.

"The festival benefits Kington businesses, with visitors using the cafes, pubs, hotels and other amenities.”

St Mary’s church hosted a collection of art and crafts, while Hergest Croft Gardens had a full-size Romany caravan plus metal and willow sculptures.

The Old Police Station attracted queues, while the art and craft market hosted live demonstrations and a huge weaving frame.

In the Oxford Arms there was an exhibition by members of ECHO, a leading provider of services for disabled people in the county.

The winner of the Christine Forrester Award was Isobel Hutton, an artist living in Lyonshall.

The prize of £200 was presented by Bob Widdowson, Christine Forrester’s husband, who said his iwfe had been too ill to attend.

"She is the patron of the festival and the sponsor of this award and I know that she has lots of ideas as to how the festival can go forward in the future.”
