A POPULAR and well-known local businessman who ran a sports shop in Hereford has died.
John Ellis ran his family saddlers and sports shop, Ellis Sports, in Commercial Street, and was well known for his music and charity interests.
He was a long-serving chairman of Hereford Municipal Charities, a past president of Hereford Rotary Club and a former organist and choirmaster at Hereford Baptist Church.
He was also for many years chairman of the Hereford Music and Drama festival, which celebrates the county's music, dance and poetry for all ages.
Mr Ellis, who died on January 23, is survived by his wife Anne, his children Mark and Sarah, stepdaughters Emma and Lucy as well as his nine grandchildren and a great grandson.
A service of thanksgiving will be held at Hereford Cathedral on Friday, February 14, at 1pm.
