Dance on the operating table at the Market Theatre this March!

But despite appearances, the audiences will certainly not be put to sleep and the performers will be under the spotlight, instead of the knife.

Through the work of the Rural Touring Dance Initiative and Arts Alive, Sadhana Dance will be presenting ‘Under My Skin’ at the Ledbury venue, later this month.

But what can an audience expect?

A spokesman said: "The show collaborates choreographer, dramatist, costume designer, poet, audio visual artists, lighting designer and even an eminent professor in surgical education!

"The dance company, who specialise in the exploration of science through dance, will be drawing from the ancient classical Southern Indian dance form of Bharata Natyam."

The spokesman added: "Three highly skilled dancers will invite the audience to share an insider’s perspective on the intricacies of the operating theatre, where detail, timing and precisely controlled exchanges are not just an artistic goal, but a matter of life or death for what promises to be a special performance."

The show has certainly been getting keen reviews.

One critic praised "an enchanting and very unexpected dance" and added, " you won’t think of surgery in the same way again”.

An audience member at a recent show called the experience "mesmerising and thought provoking" and "a wonderful piece of dance”.

Under My Skin will be performed at the Market Theatre in Ledbury at 7.30pm on Friday March 27.
