THE three tips in Herefordshire which have been closed since March will reopen next week, Herefordshire Council has confirmed.

While household recycling centres in Hereford and Leominster reopened in May, and the one in Ross-on-Wye last month, the remaining centres in Kington, Bromyard and Ledbury have remained closed.

But these three sites will now reopen next week (commencing July 6), but only if people have pre-booked a slot via the council's website. This is the same process which is already in place at the Gloucester Road site in Ross-on-Wye.

Last week the Hereford Times reported Herefordshire Council was expected to open the remaining sites from July 6.

Commissioning, procurement and assets cabinet member Gemma Davies said they could only initially open three of the sites to ensure that costs were kept within budget.

She said managing the new social distancing and control measures had caused an increase in spending.

Residents wishing to use one of these recycling centres must book their visit online and receive a pass before visiting, a council spokesperson said.

People wishing to visit must be a resident of Herefordshire and provide their address and vehicle registration number.

The following household recycling centres will be open for pre-booked vehicles only.

  • Bromyard from Tuesday, July 7
  • Kington from Friday, July 10
  • Ledbury from Wednesday, July 8
  • Ross on Wye (already open)

The council urged people not to visit unless it is necessary, and the full guidelines must be readbefore booking a slot. These guidelines include anyone who is self-isolating, or has Covid-19 symptoms, are told not to visit a household recycling centre.

Councillor Gemma Davies said: "I would like to thank residents for their patience while we have been working to safely reopen our recycling centres.

"This has not been an easy task and our staff and contractors have done a fantastic job."

Coun Davies added: "We continue to advise residents to take measures to avoid creating waste and manage it at home. If you do need to visit, please be patient because we expect sites to be busy.

"We are still very much in a global pandemic, so please observe social distancing rules at all times, come to the recycling centres alone where possible and wear gloves and suitable footwear.

"Most importantly, please act responsibly and respectfully towards other visitors and staff."
