ANIMAL rescues were the theme of the day for firefighters across Herefordshire yesterday (July 14).

Hereford Fire Station's Blue Watch were called to Belmont, Hereford, just after 1.20pm yesterday afternoon after a lamb cooling down in water became trapped in a drainage pipe.

The crew was able to pull the young sheep to safety with the assistance of a crook and a bit of digging.

The rescue followed on from two animal rescue callouts for firefighters in other parts of the county.

In Leominster, a crew was called to the aid of a pair of trapped pigeons, while Bromyard's specialist team was sent to the rescue after a horse got into trouble.
