FOR nearly 20 years, Paul Nicholls was Chairman of Dinham Millennium Green Trust.

When, in July 2017, he announced his decision to retire, it was agreed a ‘Tribute Book’ would be produced, commemorating his vision and leadership, and attempting to record why, how and despite overwhelming odds, the beautiful riverside area known today as Dinham Millennium Green and the Mill on the Green, was created.

Entitled ‘The Story of the Green – a dream becomes reality,’ the tale starts in the 1950’s with the building of a swimming pool at Dinham.

Forty years later, battle lines were drawn up when the then South Shropshire District Council offered the site of the old swimming pool and changing rooms at Dinham for sale. Ludlovians challenged the right of planners and developers to build six houses on the banks of the river Teme; a public meeting was called, and money raised to buy and clear the site.

Paul Nicholls died on Friday, February 2 this year. Costing £10.00, all monies from its sale will be donated directly to Dinham Millennium Green Trust, in memory of Paul. Copies are available from Castle Bookshop, 5 Castle Street, Ludlow, SY8 1AS or from Rosemary Wood, at The Merchant House, Lower Corve Street, Ludlow, SY8 1DU.
