THE two people who lead the Ludlow Rotary Club say that they are determined to continue to support good causes despite the problems caused by Covid-19.

This year the virus forced the group to cancel its annual money spinner the Dog Day at Stokesay Court.

Whilst this has hit fund raising the group is continuing to support good causes with smaller projects like the ‘virtual dog day’ photographic competition.

Over recent years Ludlow Rotarians have raised more than £100,000 for good causes ranging from local projects to helping support the expansion of a school in Tanzania.

The club has just elected Barry Forrester as its president for the coming year and Karen May-Wilcox as vice-president.

“Karen and I feel it’s a privilege to be asked to lead such a vibrant club,” said Mr Forrester.

“In the last few years we have raised over £120,000 in support of charities operating in and around Ludlow and as far afield as Tanzania where the club has supported the building a much-needed extension to a school.

“At the same time club members enjoy a lively social life.”

However this has been put on hold by the coronavirus emergency,

“Sadly, the coronavirus pandemic has curtailed for now many of our usual activities including the annual Dog Day event held in July,” added Mr Forrester.

“However we’re continuing to do what we can, for example, by running a Virtual Dog Day series of photographic competitions, and have been able to make donations to a range of local organisations supporting people in need at this difficult time.

“We’re determined to continue to play our part as a club in serving our community during the year ahead and, as our banner says, ‘make a difference.’”

The club is always pleased to welcome new members from all walks of life. Contact details and other information about the Club can be found on the website www.ludlowrotaryclub.org.uk.
