COLWALL ROTARY CLUB

OVER the summer holidays, Colwall CofE Primary School pupils were set the challenge of taking two photos - one which they felt best represents the village and would be most easily recognised by others as being part of the village; and the other a photo of something unusual that other people might not have noticed around the village.

On Friday, Rotarian Jim Richardson presented certificates and prizes in the school assembly to the winners of the competition. Amelia Elliott in Year 3 came first, Harvey Brace in Year 1 came second, and Reuben Alcott in Year 5 and Evalyn Alviti in Year 2 shared third place. In addition a further eight pupils were highly commended for their entries and four were commended.

Jim Richardson said: “If I could just say to start that the atmosphere in the assembly was lovely, with the teachers continually offering praise and encouragement and reinforcing values in their announcements.

"I was very pleased and impressed by the standard of the entries in the photo competition.’

Mr Richardson also took the opportunity to provide details of the National Rotary Young Photographer Competition, the theme of which is the “Beauty of Nature”.

It’s open to all young people in the Malvern and Ledbury area age seven to 18 years old. More information and details of how to enter can be found on the Colwall Rotary Club website www.colwallrotary.org.uk - entries must be received by November 30.

Jim added: “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a young person from the area winning in one of the age categories in a national competition. And why not. They each have as good a chance as anyone else.”
