WORCESTER Stands Tall has been a resounding success for both St Richard's Hospice and the city.

After raising £210,000 through the auction of the giraffe statues on Thursday evening, the hospice almost doubled its £120,000 overall fundraising target for the project in just one night alone.

The total raised throughout the giraffe trail in the summer is still being counted, but it's sure to be a sizeable sum to add to the £210,000 from the auction, meaning a massive success for St Richard's.

All the money goes towards the Build 2020 project to raise the final £1.4million needed for the £5.3m required to expand the hospice in order to care for thousands more people each year.

Of course, Worcester as a whole has benefited hugely from the Stands Tall art trail, with visitors flocking to the city to see the giraffe sculptures over the summer.

This created a real buzz in the city while also helping the local economy, as trail visitors spent their money in Worcester's shops and restaurants.

So while St Richard's is thanking Worcester for its support, the city is thanking the hospice.
