A DUO who work for Age UK are celebrating their successful bid for one of the Worcester Stands Tall giraffes.

Tim Crowley and Julie Turner, who work for Age UK Worcester and District, are the proud new owners of the giraffe calf Lily the Pink, which sold for £10,000 at the auction on Thursday night.

A total of £210,400 was raised through the auction with the money going to St Richard’s Hospice, which organised the giraffe trail in Worcester this summer.

There were 30 giant giraffes and 17 calves on display across the city centre, proving a big draw to visitors.

Julie said: “Having seen all the giraffes over the summer, we had our eyes on at least three of them in the auction but decided that the smaller Lily would be perfect for our plans to carry on fundraising for St Richard’s Hospice and Age UK Worcester & District.

“St Richard’s provided huge support to me when my late husband was ill, providing both in-patient care and home support to enable me to have a break from my caring role.

“Tim also wanted to support St Richard’s in memory of his mother who died last year.”

Lily will now go on tour with Julie around the social clubs that she runs for Age UK and hopefully continue to raise funds for both charities.
